How you can make a difference in a child's education!
In Guatemala we see a cycle of education and poverty. Parents send there kids to public schools since they are free but still have to purchase school supplies. The public schools have about 60 kids per teacher so students tend to not receive the education needed. A high number of students drop out around the 6th grade and go work in the fields. Most of the dropouts are due to lack of funds at home or the student just doesn't understand what is being taught due to not enough one on one time from the teacher. We see this cycle of lack of education and poverty over and over.
How we are making a difference and how you can get involved.
What we have found is by sending the kids that really want to learn to schools that only except 20 or less per class that they receive better education, along with better jobs, and cycle of poverty stops. We pay for all school supplies and education fees. The students in order to continue with this system need to maintain at least an 80% grade point average (B or higher). Some students need tutors during the year and so we provide those for them as well so their grades remain above the 80%. The cost of this education per student is $50 per month or roughly $600 per year. All donations are tax deductible and 100% goes towards the student and their education. You can choose to give a small amount towards helping, elect to give a monthly donation, or even a one time full scholarship of $600. Each student that you help will take the time to send you a letter showing what they are up to and how you have helped them along with a short a video.
